Chapel Wedding in Durham North Carolina

Stephanie and Will had a gorgeous chapel wedding in Durham, North Carolina this summer.

The ceremony and reception took place at First Baptist Church Durham, which is a very elegant location to have a chapel wedding in Durham, North Carolina. This wedding was very special as they sang one of my favorite hymns, It is Well, during their ceremony! It was so amazing hearing the song ring through the giant chapel.

The church features a beautiful chapel with tall ceilings and rainbow stained-glass windows. The bright colors of the windows really popped with my true-to-color photography style.

The wedding colors included a bright sunflower yellow, orange hues and a sky blue. This palette went beautifully with the church’s radiant scenery.

The couple and the bridal party arrived early that day to capture getting ready photos and first looks. Instead of a typical first look with the groom, the bride opted to do one with her mother-in-law(and grandmother-in-law), father and two brothers. This was so much fun to capture!

In the courtyard, there’s a lovely rose garden that makes the perfect spot for some detail photos.

The reception was in the church’s large fellowship hall in the basement. They chose to do a shorter reception which was nice for the guests, as there wasn’t as much downtime. Many Baptist churches, like this one, do not allow a dance floor, but instead, only allow the first dances to take place. Although this cuts the reception time down significantly, it can be nice in the hot summer.

The giant staircase made the perfect spot for the couple’s bubble exit at the end of their chapel wedding in Durham, North Carolina. All of the wedding guests lined up on either side of the middle and made a path to the getaway car.
